New Delhi: E-commerce channels bring about one-third of business for the retail and licensing arm of Disney India, said a top official of the company.

Speaking exclusively at The Great India Retail Summit 2024, held earlier this month in Mumbai, Sanjeet Mehta, ED- Indonesia, MENA & India (Disney Consumer Products), The Walt Disney Company, said, “Modern trade and e-commerce have been quite important channels for us. About a third of our business comes from e-commerce. It’s a high-growth channel for us.”

Commenting on the role of emerging channels such as 10-minute deliveries, Mehta said that while quick commerce is early days for the brand today, he expects it to become a focus channel going forward.

Giving a peek into the company’s strategy behind narrative-driven retail, he shared Disney’s ‘365 evergreen approach.’ Mehta said that Disney Consumer Products ensures that iconic characters like Mickey Mouse and Snow White remain culturally relevant through a diverse array of merchandise, from dolls to theme-based products celebrating blockbuster films.

Moreover, he emphasized the importance of localization to resonate with local audiences. He highlighted collaborations of the brand with retailers such as Sabyasachi, Manyavar, Biba, Satyapaul and Wrogn.

With global retail sales surpassing USD 60 billion, storytelling has been at the heart of Disney Consumer Products to seamlessly integrate stories into products, experiences, and retail, Mehta stated.
