The Platform Group has taken over Hood Media. This gives TPG control over Hood.de, one of the ten largest online marketplaces in Germany according to the new owner. The acquisition was financed from its own resources.

Founded in 1999, Hood.de provides sales space for nearly five thousand active sellers in over twenty product categories. In recent years, the platform belonged to the Signa Group, which became insolvent at the end of 2023. Hood Media had been for sale for some time.

Consumer goods segment

The marketplace will be added to TPG’s consumer goods segment. Dominik Benner, CEO of The Platform Group, is pleased with the addition of thousands of new marketplace sellers. He highlights Hood.de’s long history and hints at investments in the marketplace. The acquisition price has not been disclosed.

‘Our goal is to actively develop Hood.de further.’

Specialized marketplaces

The Platform Group is building an extensive portfolio of particularly specialized marketplaces, that are gaining ground in European ecommerce. These include platforms in sectors such as furniture, cars, luxury, and machinery. TPG operates in both the B2B and B2C markets. Last year, the group merged with industry peer Fashionette, also from Germany, and found a buyer for its beauty and smartphones divisions.

Avocadostore

TPG has made over twenty investments and acquisitions since 2020. Last month, the group announced an investment in Avocadostore, a leading digital marketplace for sustainable products in Germany. Fifteen hundred merchants and brands are connected to the platform.

TPG has also taken a majority stake in Avocadostore.

TPG is not done buying yet, the company emphasizes once again. At the end of last year, the group announced plans for three to eight acquisitions, a target that is now being repeated. Two takeovers have so far been effectuated.
