New Delhi: Frozen snack foods maker McCain Foods India’s managing director Piyush Patnaik has stepped down from his role within one year of joining following allegations of “improper conduct”, a person directly aware of the matter told ET.

The average term for leadership roles at McCain is four years.

The India unit of the Canadian foods maker has also seen half-a-dozen senior-level executives moving out of McCain India in the past six months or so, in functions such as human resources, finance, agriculture, supply chain, retail key accounts, legal and exports.

“We confirm that Piyush Patnaik is no longer with the company,” a spokesperson for McCain Foods India confirmed in an email revert.

According to executives aware of the developments, Patnaik’s exit followed allegations of “inappropriate conduct” in the company. In response to ET’s query on the same, addressed to McCain India’s office and global headquarters, the company said in an email revert: “We will have no further comment on his departure for internal confidentiality reasons”.

Patnaik said in response to ET’s query: “I have stepped down for personal reasons. I wish to pursue other interests”.

On the mid-senior level exits within the company, the McCain spokesperson said: “In the past year, we have made a number of personnel changes as part of our global strategy to align and optimise leadership roles across the team”.

The spokesperson said this included providing new opportunities in leadership roles worldwide and making structural changes across different areas of business in India.

Patnaik had joined McCain Foods India, a wholly-owned subsidiary of McCain Foods, last October.
