New Delhi: Flipkart’s value commerce arm Shopsy is expecting to grow in excess of 2X across all key metrics in its annual festive sale ‘Grand Shopsy Mela’, which began on September 11.
Talking to ETRetail, a senior executive of the company shared that the e-tailer began working on the annual festive sale about 4 months back in terms of understanding customer behavior, identifying demand trends, categories, products, and price points to focus on.
Kapil Thirani, Head of Shopsy, Flipkart said, “This time there has been a distress in tier 2 and 3 cities where discretionary spending has reduced due to inflationary pressures. But one thing is guaranteed that during festivals Indians spend.”
Talking about the sale, Thirani said that this year’s edition will be the biggest. He highlighted that Shopsy has worked with suppliers to ensure the quality and value of the products. “We make sure that the value which our consumer gets at the price they pay is the highest across the industry.”
The e-commerce major plans to launch a lot of value-engineered products at new price points, pointed out Thirani claiming, “We are starting with products at as low as Rs 10.”
In terms of categories, the senior executive shared that the e-tailer is focusing on new categories such as bangles, bindis, hair accessories, and more. “These categories have not been exposed online and are very important for our target customer which is tier 2,3 women. These products are bought frequently. With these categories, we also aim to tap more repeat customers.”
Without sharing exact numbers, Thirani said that Shopsy has a supply of new sellers that is completely untapped. Claiming to have a total of about 11 lakh sellers, he said that a lot of new sellers on Shopsy are coming from non-e-commerce seller regions such as Firozabad, Agra, Kanpur, and more.
For the upcoming festive season, the e-commerce company expects demand to pick up in southern regions on the back of Shopsy’s vernacular capabilities. Currently, about 25 per cent of Shopsy customers use vernacular languages on the platform.
Taking note of the slowdown in e-commerce, Shopsy’s Head said that he is very bullish for this festive season. He stated that the categories and price points that the company is focusing on have been unchartered and will drive a lot of repeats.
